Executive Director Reflections

Updated: Nov 16

Caring Behind the Scenes

As I reflect on the last six months as the Executive Director of the Foundation, the first theme that I could attach to my experience was caring behind the scenes. Our board comprises 16 members who volunteer their time to ensure an impact is made within the Haslett School District. I have been to countless meetings where planning has taken place with great detail to ensure maximum dollars are raised to support our students and teachers.

Embracing the Challenge

I am the first ever Executive Director for the Foundation. I immediately took the opportunity to help make a real difference in the lives of students and help our teachers fund those gaps where the district may not be able to.

From the start, I recognized that our organization plays a vital role in the educational system. We focus on three key areas: fundraising for student scholarships, providing grants for teachers, and giving provisions for field trips. Each of these initiatives is crucial to enhancing the educational experience and ensuring that both students and teachers have the resources they need to thrive.

Our scholarship initiative opens doors for students who need the financial means to pursue higher education. For many, these scholarships represent not just financial aid but also a belief in their potential. It’s heartwarming to think about how a single scholarship can impact a student’s life trajectory.

Like any new role, my journey as Executive Director has not been without its challenges. One of the most significant hurdles has been understanding the landscape of our community and building relationships with various stakeholders. Engaging with school district administrators, teachers, parents, and local businesses is essential for fostering a collaborative environment where everyone feels invested in our mission. I can attest that I have been welcomed and helped throughout my journey!

Executing the Plan

The reality is, we won’t get anywhere without bringing in the money to FUND beyond the fundamentals. Therefore, fundraising is a constant focus. It requires creativity, persistence, and a deep understanding of our community’s needs and interests. As I work to develop strategies that resonate with potential donors, I have learned the importance of transparency. People want to know where their money is going and how it makes a difference. By sharing stories of students and teachers impacted by our programs, we can create emotional connections that drive support. We have a board of directors who believe the same.

Closing

As I look ahead, I am hopeful and optimistic about the new opportunities that will come before up to help fund grants and scholarships. We want to leverage technology and other platforms to help increase our donations. However, I would be remiss If I did not at least mention your willingness to give to the Foundation. If you would like to contribute to the Foundation, please make your gift today. Thank you in advance!

As I embrace the responsibilities of this role, I remain committed to building strong relationships within the community, advocating for our students and teachers, and ensuring that our organization continues to thrive. The road ahead may be uncertain, but with passion, determination, and a shared vision, I am confident that we will make a lasting impact on education in our district.

Feel free to contact me directly with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Raynika Battle, M.S., PEM
